It can even fight against infections and virus-causing diseases. That is why the importance of soap has been increased especially due to the nowadays spreading COVID 19 pandemic condition. In this way, soap has grabbed a critical role in the survival of human beings in the world.  By using soaps while bathing you can bring forth a smooth, glowing skin, and also ensure protection against various dermal problems.

Thus, in any case, soap is one of the first and last inevitable products that you often come across in a day. On the other hand, there is no single perfect soap that is suitable for everyone. As there are hundreds of different kinds of soaps available in the market, selecting the right one as per your requirement becomes absolutely critical. In the world, people are with different skin types, and hence, you have to choose a soap that suits your skin and lifestyle in all respects. Here, we have provided some wise tips that help you choose the best soap.

Generally, soaps are available in three broadest varieties

Industrial bar soap
: The industrial bar soaps are the mass-produced conventional soaps. These variants are fundamentally more detergent based than actual soap. Soaps belonging to the detergent category are petroleum based products such as kerosene, gasoline etc. Besides these constituents, conventional bar soaps usually contain BHT (butylated hydroxytoluene), sodium tallowate, artificial colors, synthetic fragrances, salts and other preservatives. These alkaline natured soap bars are hard, cheap and plentiful.

Milled Soap (Handmade soap): These are usually made from vegetable-based oils like coconut oil, palm oil, olive oil, etc, and have a much higher glycerin content to keep your skin healthy and  hydrated. Milled soaps also contain luxe ingredients like botanicals or herbs, essential oils, and do not contain any skin-irritating chemicals observed in mass-produced bar soap. Almost all handmade soaps are made by cold process, which keeps the vegetable and essential oils undamaged, while removing any harmful ingredients like lye. Handmade soaps need 4 to 6 weeks to make, and are usually soft in texture. However, they not only look and smell elegant but also wonderful for your skin types.

Artisanal soap: Artisanal soaps are the uber-creative soaps crafted by specialists with food-grade or organic ingredients for getting the most luxe and skin-friendly positive outcome. Examples of these types of soaps include superfatted soap made from added butters and oils, soap made with clays, goat’s milk, excessive oils, and so on. This is considered as one of the best soaps you can choose.

Further than these basics, please bear in the mind the following things also while making a choice.

Plant vegetable based or vegan soap: Generally prepared from coconut oil, palm oil, or olive oil. While manufacturing these soaps, no animal fats are added, and found very much suitable for sensitive skin types.

Castile soap: Authentic Castile soap is made with olive oil collected from the Castile region of Spain. These vegetable oil soaps are known for their luxurious, creamy lather.

Marseille soap: The origin of these soaps is from Marseilles in France, and the preparation of the soap is very much intermingled with the pure olive oil of that region. Authentic Marseille soap is a 600-years-old 100% natural preparation, with at least 72% oil, and contains no artificial preservatives.

Glycerin soap: This brilliant moisturizer soap is recommended for frail or dry skin. However, it is a misleading concept that all transparent soaps contain glycerin. Typically, mass-produced soaps contain far lower glycerin than the handmade versions because cost is a key factor here.

Triple-milled or French-milled soap: Milling is a procedure of extorting surplus water by taking soap through steel rollers under remarkable pressure. Here, triple-milling is also known as French-milling, since the three times milling process was invented in that region. The triple- milling process not only gets rid of most of the water, but also makes sure that the ingredients are well combined to form a smoother and more uniform soap variant without impurities.

Sodium tallowate soap: In this soap variant, one of the ingredients used is an animal fat, exclusively known as tallow. Bars made with tallow are usually reasonably priced.

Cold verses hot processed soap: Hot processed soap is prepared at a much higher temperature. This technique reduces the time of manufacturing from several weeks to a few days. However, it also results in a lesser concentration of useful ingredients such as oils, glycerin, etc, while the concentration of prospective irritants like lye gets raised. In the cold processed soap manufacturing method, the processing is carried out at room temperature, and thus, the preservation of oils and glycerin are achieved.

Choose soaps based on your skin types

Oily skin

Normally, the skin is capable of producing the natural oil called sebum. The secretion of this natural oil differs from person to person. People with oily skin would have over working sebaceous glands. For such people, the possibilities to have acne are very high. People with this type of skin should wash their face often, and evade using strong soaps. You may check the ingredients of soaps while buying, and give preference to soaps containing peach pits, sea salt, brown sugar or oatmeal. These constituents are gentle on your skin while simultaneously removing the excess oil, and thus minimize the possibility of creating damage to the skin. If your skin is not too sensitive, then you can try a gentle exfoliating soap which you have to use 2 to 4 times in a week.

Dry skin

Sebum is vital for the human skin, but the emission of this oil should not be either too high or too low. When the secretion of sebum comes lower than the most favorable range, your skin becomes dry. So, when you are selecting soaps for dry skin, make sure that the ingredients in the soap have moisturizing features. If you have dry skin you can opt for a soap containing sufficient quantity of glycerin. Glycerin has moisturizing features, and is capable of taking up water content present in the air. This quality of glycerin helps to keep your skin moist for a longer duration. You can also try soaps that contain coconut oil, cocoa butter, avocado, aloe Vera, jojoba oil, and vegetable oil in case of dry skin.

Sensitive skin

There are a lot of soaps available in the market for sensitive skin. So, those who have sensitive skin need not worry about that sensitivity. While choosing soaps for sensitive skin, you should make sure that the soap you are purchasing has balanced pH levels, and contains no perfume or colorants in them.

Combination skin

Combination skin has got both dry and oily features. If your skin comes under this category, you should avoid soaps manufactured exclusively for either oily skin or dry skin. The ingredients of the soaps meant for dry skin make the oily parts of the skin oilier, whereas the ingredients of the soaps meant for oily skin make the dry parts of the skin drier. Glycerin soaps are the ideal choice for those individuals having combination skin.

Normal skin

Normal skin type is quite contradictory to combination skin. Normal skin will be neither too dry nor too oily. People with this type of skin should avoid both oily skin soaps and dry skin soaps. For such people herbal soaps are the ideal choice.

Soap types to be avoided by all skin types.

  1. Never choose soaps with higher pH value as well as acid content.
  2. You may also keep away from soaps containing too many chemicals.
  3. Do not try soaps which promise 100 percent fairness, because they may contain too many chemicals to achieve the results speedily.
  4. Also evade soaps with too much perfume.

So, before buying soaps, you must understand your skin type. Then choose the best soap with respect to your skin type. You can follow a trial and error method to find out the right soap that suits your skin type. Then permanently use those soaps which are meant for your skin type. In this way, you can keep up a beautiful and glowing skin.
